Corina Dimitriu

...

Corina Dimitriu is an artist interested in the dialogue between past and present, between historical themes and contemporary sensibility. In her current project she explores how the same theme can provoke different reactions in different times and paradigms: baroque and contemporary. It investigates how the hunting trophy, famous in Flemish painting, can be reinterpreted and recontextualized in a way that makes it acceptable and relevant to the modern viewer. It invites the viewers to observe their own prejudices and habits, which are shaped by social and cultural influences, and to reflect on their own relationship with nature, violence and morality. Corina uses various mediums, watercolour, pastel, charcoal, oil, collage, to create a contrast and a harmony between classic and contemporary, old and new, tragic and glorious. Inspired by Frans Snijders, Delacroix, Velasquez, Degas, Paul Klee, Cecily Brown, de Kooning, her approach is a search for a new aesthetic of the hunting theme. Corina is a graduate of UNARTE, painting department.
