Ioana Cristodorescu

In her recent work, Ioana Cristodorescu revisits themes from her earlier practice, allowing them to evolve and distill rather than simply disappear. The once-explicit presence of "Gura lumii" (The Gossip Mill) has receded from view, becoming a subtle, internalized pressure. It no longer requires a concrete form; its influence is evident in gesture, bodily tension, and the relationships between figures. Her painted figures take on hybrid forms, with bird heads emerging as symbols of transition and vigilance. The bird becomes an extension of the body, embodying instinct and protection while signaling an identity in flux. Motherhood marks this transitional phase not as direct representation, but as a state of being: the body conceived as a space of accumulation, memory, and continuous transformation.
